The Elders of the Apocalypse are biblical figures. In the biblical text of the Apocalypse, they appear surrounding the celestial throne (Revelation 4:10; referential framework of the sound: celestial music) to adore the anonymous figure seated among the living (Revelation 4:10; action of the sound in the image: glorification). Medieval theologians recognized in the praise of the Elders a real image of the glory of the celestial Church associated with Christ (referential framework of the sound: Music of the Church); see Yves Christe, L’Apocalypse de Jean: sens et développement de ses visions synthétiques (Paris: Picard, 1996, 27). In this context, music is the sacerdotal form of the incarnation of the Word (source of musical inspiration: Christ).
